Motorcycle accident survivor asks drivers to slow down on busy Little Rock road

A Little Rock motorcyclist is urging drivers to slow down after he was seriously injured in a head-on collision with a vehicle while riding on Colonel Glenn Road.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Richard Keener is sharing his near-death experience with the world to show his life as an example for drivers to slow down.

On Sept. 21, the Little Rock man was in a head-on collision while riding his motorcycle on Colonel Glenn Road, two miles from his home.

Kenner said that the area of Colonel Glenn Road has been problematic for years.

"It has to change [and] it needs to be widened, more signs, more patrols," Keener said. "The most important thing is the people that live out here have to care and have to slow down."

As a result of the accident, Keener said he suffered several serious injuries.

"I slid for about 50 feet," Keener said. "I broke most of the ribs on my right side, all of the toes on my right and so many cuts and scrapes that I can't find them all."

Keener said he wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the people who stopped on the day of the accident, the nurses and doctors at UAMS and the American Legion.

"Thanks to the people that stopped and helped me, the great nurses and doctors at UAMS," Keener said. "I'm here. I'm able to tell you guys I'm alive. I'm blessed."

However, Keener knows that not everybody is offered that option and wants to spread the message that drivers need to slow down.

"I have a memorial on this side of my house and one on this side of my house," Keener said. "They weren't lucky. They weren't blessed that day. They didn't go home to their family."

Despite the pain caused by the accident, Keener said he'll be back on his bike soon and ready to keep sharing his message.

"I've lived more in five seconds on my motorcycle than most people live in a lifetime," Keener said. "I live by that."

We have contacted the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office to find out how many accidents have occurred on that road and whether anything is being done about the area.

They have not gotten back to us, but we will keep you updated as we learn more.
