Police make second arrest in 2017 North Little Rock homicide

The North Little Rock Police Department has made a second arrest in the 2017 homicide of Damien Mitchell.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Thursday, the North Little Rock Police Department arrested a 28-year-old Pine Bluff man for his involvement in the 2017 shooting death of 36-year-old Damien Mitchell.

Police said Neiman Byrd, who is currently housed at the Arkansas Department of Corrections on unrelated charges, was arrested and charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

Byrd is the second arrest made in the past month for the homicide of Mitchell. 37-year-old Mashadrick Waddy was arrested earlier this month and is currently in the Pulaski County Jail with no bond.

According to authorities, North Little Rock police officers responded to a shooting in the 4800 block of Ira Steet around 3:38 a.m. on July 28, 2017, and found Mitchell "lying in the street with a fatal gunshot wound."
