Candidates file to run for office in Arkansas | What to know

Candidate filing for the November election has begun, and one man aims to join the Little Rock city board. Here’s what to know before hitting the polls in Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Candidate filing for the November election is officially underway.

On the first day of registering to put your name on the ballot, one man hopes to become the newest Little Rock city board member.

"It's been really exciting," Blake Tierney said. "We had over 200 signatures turned in."

Tierney is running for Little Rock city director position 10 at-large. He said he has already raised $30,000 for his campaign.

"This is time. It's time," Tierney said. "It's been time for change, and I know that everybody I've talked to is energized by what can happen here in the city."

Pulaski County Clerk Terri Hollingsworth said she has also seen more people energized by this election season.

"We have certainly seen an increase in people, churches and organizations wanting to do voter registration," Hollingsworth said.

Because of this, she is training people so they can host their own voter registration events.

There are some important dates to know for people who want to participate in the elections:

  • The deadline to file as a candidate is Aug. 7 at noon
  • People have until Oct. 7 to register to vote this November

In Little Rock, the only other person to file to run for office on Wednesday was Director Joan Adcock. She is the incumbent for the position that Tierney is running against. Additionally, Pulaski County had 10 candidates file.
