Arkansas Democrats to meet after Biden exits 2024 presidential election

Arkansas Democrats will meet this evening to "discuss the consensus of the State Party" following President Biden's departure from the upcoming presidential race.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Democratic Party of Arkansas will meet Monday night to "discuss the consensus" of who the state delegates will nominate at the Democratic National Convention following President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 race.

The party said they were proud of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris "for the way they have met this historic moment."

"Democrats and voters of all backgrounds have responded in kind — the last 24 hours have represented the most historic fundraising day for any party in American political history," the DPA said in a statement. "More than $95,000,000 has been donated to Democratic causes in the day since President Joe Biden made his selfless and patriotic decision to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris."

The Arkansas Democrats plan to have their private meeting on Monday, which is roughly a month before the Democratic National Convention which will take place from August 19 through August 22.

This comes after Biden announced he was ending his bid for reelection on Sunday, July 21, and has since endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to run against Donald Trump in his place as the new candidate.

The Democratic Party of Arkansas announced on Monday that their delegation to the Democratic National Convention voted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

“No one is better prepared than Vice President Harris to prosecute the case against Donald Trump and articulate how Democrats are working for a Better Arkansas,” added Grant Tennille, Democratic Party of Arkansas Delegation Chair.

Reactions poured in from around the country after Biden's announcement that he would be exiting the 2024 race, including remarks from former presidents like Barack Obama, who has had a long working relationship with the current president.

"This outstanding track record gave President Biden every right to run for re-election and finish the job he started," Obama noted. " For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he should pass the torch to a new nominee is surely one of the toughest in his life."

President Biden intends to carry out the remainder of his term in office until it ends on January 20, 2025.

Since his announcement, politicians in Arkansas have also issued statements and reacted to the news on social media, with Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders claiming Biden was "not fit to run for president, not fit to serve as president" and that "Biden should resign immediately."

Other politicians like former President Bill Clinton thanked Biden for his time in office and even joined in the endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic representative for this year's election.

"We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and again, with his North Star always being what's best for the country."
