Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' approval rating moves to 58% in new poll

A new poll has the Arkansas governor at a 58% approval rating, down two points from a similar Morning Consult poll in October 2023.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The approval rating of Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders dropped two points from October 2023, according to a new poll released by Morning Consult on the popularity of governors across the country.

The poll, which was released on Jan. 31, shows Sanders' approval rating dropped from 60% to 58% over a three month period. Those who disapproved of her increased from 31% to 34% in the same time period.

Sanders in the October poll was listed as the 12th most popular governor, but dipped to 18th in the January poll. But among Republican voters that were polled who "strongly approve" of GOP governors, she ranked fifth overall.

Polling is based off a three-month average of "monthly roll-ups derived from Morning Consult's daily U.S. tracking survey."

Jamie Barker, the governor's deputy chief of staff, said in response to the polling that Arkansans "strongly support" Sanders and that the administration is "just getting started!"

Entering her second year in office, Sanders continues to promise making Arkansas "the best place in the country" and looking for ways to bring more people to the state. She is also promising to enact more tax cuts and continue her overhaul of the education system.

The governor is also facing a battle with the state's prison board over adding prison beds as well as concerns over a growing water crisis in Helena-West Helena exacerbated by an aging infrastructure. An audit is still underway to figure out what led to the purchase of a $19,000 lectern.
