FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Former UMass forward Josh Cohen announced his plans to transfer to Arkansas on Friday, marking the first addition for head coach Eric Musselman and the Razorbacks this portal season.
Cohen, 6-10 and 220 pounds, played one season for the Minutemen and averaged a team-leading 15.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while starting all 30 games this past season to earn All-Arlantic 10 first-team honors.
The senior averaged 28.5 minutes per game and shot 54.4% from the field, including 11 of 32 (34.4%) behind the three-point line. Cohen's skills on the court shined in a 79-78 loss to Loyola Chicago, where he scored a season-high 28 points on 66.7% shooting with eight rebounds and two steals in 37 minutes of playing time.
Cohen adds size and depth to a Razorback basketball roster full of question marks.
Guards Davonte Davis, Joseph Pinion, Keyon Menifield, Layden Blocker and forward Denijay Harris entered the transfer portal, leaving Khalif Battle, Tramon Mark, Trevon Brazile, Baye Fall, Lawson Blake and Cade Arbogast as the only players on the roster from this past season.
While the Razorbacks will add incoming freshmen Jalen Shelley and Isaiah Elohim, the team did lose Jalen Graham, Makhi Mitchell, Jeremiah Davenport, El Ellis and Chandler Lawson to graduation.
The addition of Cohen provides Arkansas with a much-needed big man with a handful of frontcourt experience.
Cohen, who started his career at St. Francis, averages 14 points, 6.6 rebounds and one assist per game for his career.
